ABOUT THE SIGLÓ HOUSE

Small, smart, and full of charm — Stay & sleep Icelandic-style

Step outside and you’re on Siglufjörður’s main street — just a few steps from the bakery, pizzeria, brewery, restaurants, and the harbor. Everything is right at your doorstep.

"We hope The Sigló House feels like your own little corner of Siglufjörður — and creates memories you’ll carry home with you."

— The Sigló House Team

Though compact, 19.2 sqm, the House is smartly designed. A cozy dining and seating area makes it easy to relax and enjoy your surroundings. While there’s no cooking possibility, it’s hardly needed with so many delicious options just around the corner. Inside, you’ll find a warm and functional bathroom with a walk-in shower, stocked with spa-style amenities: shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand soap, hand cream, towels, and a hair dryer — all provided.

The bedroom features two separate twin beds in true Icelandic style, with rustic wooden furnishings that reflect how Icelanders slept and lived in earlier times. The beds are smaller than normal beds or 190x75cm and 185x95cm. Outside, enjoy a little garden space and the charm of being right in the heart of town — yet tucked into your own peaceful corner. We hope your stay at The Sigló House inspires you, comforts you, and offers a genuine taste of Icelandic life.

Winter nights worth remembering.

NORTHERN LIGHTS & COZY NIGHTS

The Sigló House is just as magical outside as it is inside. In the darker months, you might be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights dancing across the Arctic sky. Winter nights in Siglufjörður are crisp, quiet, and truly unforgettable.

Step outside to the little garden, look up at the stars, and let the Arctic sky surprise you.

In Siglufjörður, winter is never just winter — it’s a front-row seat to nature’s best show.”

HERITAGE & CHARM

The story behind the Sigló House

The Sigló House is more than just a stay — it’s a small piece of Siglufjörður’s soul. Built in 2009 by Icelandic architect Örlygur Kristfinnsson, the house was designed as an authentic Icelandic traditional home, inspired by the 19th‑century turf houses of the North. With its grass roof, stone‑clad walls, and cheerful yellow exterior, it blends heritage with the warmth of small‑town life.

Since its construction, The Sigló House has left its mark on the main street, influencing the look and feel of the neighborhood and inspiring others to honor Icelandic tradition in their own homes. Its white picket fence and unmistakable charm make people stop, smile, and take a photo — it’s probably the most photographed house in Siglufjörður, now widely seen as a little landmark in the town.

Örlygur, who also designed several other houses in Siglufjörður, is known for his deep respect for tradition and detail, and that care is felt in every corner of the house. Today, The Sigló House is not only a place to stay but a piece of Icelandic heritage, inviting you to experience life here in the most authentic way possible.
